The Carsharing Association (CSA) in collaboration with movmi is organizing the 2020 Carsharing City Awards. The Carsharing City Awards is a unique celebration of the cities and their people who are leading the way in introducing, maintaining, supporting and recognizing the value of having a sustainable carsharing eco-system within their city.

We are at the center of a transformational shift in transportation: with Shared Mobility offerings leading the way in the transition to CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric). Carsharing is one of the Shared Mobility offerings that has been confirmed to have a positive impact on communities with less vehicles owned and vehicle miles travelled.

There are two categories: metropolitan and regional cities because transportation is a very local phenomenon and what works in Toronto, New York, London, Singapore, Melbourne might not work in Halifax, Denver, Grenoble or Auckland, NZ. The award ceremony will take place on May 29th, 2020 in Vancouver, Canada during the annual carsharing conference.

WHY CREATE A CARSHARING CITY AWARD?

The Carsharing City Awards are an opportunity for the carsharing community to learn what makes carsharing ultimately successful and sustainable from a community, economic and social perspective. These awards will also highlight the different policy approaches successful cities are taking and will raise the profile and the value of carsharing to cities on a global level. 

THE CITIES 

Each city will be given a chance to showcase their leadership in carsharing policies and regulations and how they have been integrated it into the overall transportation plans. Essentially, how cities have use successful carsharing systems to support their goals for the reduction of personal use vehicles and congestion, therefore carbon emissions. They will gain visibility and recognition for their efforts in the carsharing space and also encourage other cities introduce and help them maintain their own individual carsharing eco-system.

THE CARSHARING CITY AWARDS

There are two Carsharing City Awards categories, one for metropolitan and one for regional cities. Transportation is a very unique and individual to each area it operates within. For example what works in Toronto, New York, London, Singapore, Melbourne may not work as well in Halifax, Denver, Grenoble or Auckland, NZ.

Carsharing City of the Year – Metropolitan: Awarded to the metropolitan city (over 1 million residents or in a metropolitan location) showcasing the best use and implementation of unique policies, technology and processes to enhance the overall operability and viability of carsharing services.

Carsharing City of the Year – Regional: Awarded to the regional city (under 1 million residents or in a regional location) showcasing the best use and implementation of unique policies, technology and processes to enhance the overall operability and viability of carsharing services.

We are searching for entries that match the category criteria (see below) with key information and relevant data clearly showcased for our panel of judges.

THE CRITERIA

Regardless of the size of the city, judges will look for: 

• Improved Transport Options: We would like to see evidence of the work the city is currently undertaking that is radically improving existing transportation options that support a carfree/carlite life for its residents.
• Policy & Regulations: Evidence that the city has been creating and implementing policies, regulations and programs that foster viable and financially sustainable carsharing systems.
• Residents Improved Lifestyle: We would like to see evidence supporting how the lives of residents are being improved as a result of the implemented carsharing policies.
• Reduction of Carbon Emissions & Congestion: Evidence that the city is tying their policies & regulations in with GHG and congestion reduction goals (e.g congestion pricing, EV policies, RAC zones etc)
• Future Plans: Evidence of a clear long-term plan or goal for the interconnection of all shared mobility services and public transit to create a transportation network that allows people to live car-free or car-lite.

HOW TO ENTER

Nominations are open to cities internationally. The awards ceremony will take place during the 2020 carsharing conference May 28th-29th in Vancouver, BC. The Carsharing Association (CSA) conference in Vancouver will equip carsharing organizations and other attendees with an actionable toolkit of data, strategies, practical operating solutions and case studies to optimize their growth. Participants attending the 2020 conference will set the stage for the rapid progression of the industry and strengthening the role of carsharing in the next era of mobility.
