  • Promotes community equity and resiliency by pooling shared assets.

Why It Works: By emphasizing car, bike, and trailer sharing within trusted communities, LocoMotion enables intergenerational access, making mobility more affordable, inclusive, and environmentally conscious.

 

Real-World Example: Mulo (Québec-Based Micro-Mobility)

What it is: Mulo is an electric cargo bike rental service based in Québec. Their  messaging emphasizes diverse use cases: “a package, a friend, a pet, a ride, groceries, hockey bag…” a playful highlight that accommodates varying user needs. 

Benefits:

  • Provides a car-free alternative for families needing space for children, groceries, or sports gear.
  • Offers seniors and adults with reduced physical capacity a boosted electric assist, reducing strain while carrying heavy loads.
  • Makes short-trip urban travel easier for multi-generational households without requiring car ownership.

Why It Works: Mulo frames itself as an adaptable, inclusive micromobility solution, implicitly inviting users of different ages and abilities to “move differently” on their terms.

Example: In a rural area, a DRT service was updated to include caregiver features like real-time tracking, SMS alerts for family, and a staffed call center for live assistance. These tools gave caregivers peace of mind and helped new or nervous riders feel more secure trying transit on their own.

What it is: Driving Miss Daisy offers personalized driving services tailored to individuals who require a supportive, assisted approach to mobility—such as seniors or those with limited transportation options. 

Benefits:

  • Offers customized, door-to-door transport with human assistance.
  • Provides comfort, independence, and dignity for seniors who may struggle with public transit or driving.

Why It Works: By delivering chauffeur-style, caring service, Driving Miss Daisy addresses physical and cognitive accessibility needs, giving older adults renewed mobility confidence in everyday travel.

Something to also note is research from CoMoUK on how disabled people experience shared transport. Their findings show that while car clubs, bike share, and demand-responsive transport can all increase independence and reduce social isolation, many disabled users still face barriers such as digital-only booking systems, limited adaptive vehicles, and vehicle designs that aren’t universally accessible. The report highlights that when shared mobility services include multiple access points (like call-in booking), adaptive options, and staff support, they not only serve disabled riders better but also create more resilient, user-friendly systems for everyone.
