How movmi Empowers Shared Mobility Teams Through Capability Building

shared mobility capability building

At movmi, our mission goes far beyond delivering successful mobility projects. We equip teams with the skills, confidence, and strategic insight they need to lead transformation from within. In the fast-moving world of shared mobility, the most resilient solutions are those built on internal capability.

Whether it is a city team running its first DRT pilot, a developer planning mobility hubs for a new community, or a startup refining its financial model, we help our partners become confident, capable leaders.

This blog explores how we turn that belief into action, through tailored workshops, professional development programs like our Shared Mobility Pathways masterclass and Shared Mobility 360 course, embedded mentorship during projects, and practical resources designed not just to deliver outcomes, but to build lasting internal capacity for our client.

Why Capability Building is Essential for Mobility Providers and City Planners

Shared mobility today is more than just launching new services; it’s about staying ahead of change, navigating uncertainty, and creating inclusive systems that scale. Yet many organizations face roadblocks: stretched internal resources, fragmented knowledge, or a team culture that’s reactive rather than strategic.

Temporary support from consultants can fill gaps – but what about effective implementation and decision-making?

That’s where capability building becomes essential.

It enables organizations to:

  • Make faster, more informed decisions based on internal knowledge.
Adapt to regulatory, market, or technological shifts to effectively collaborate with external consulting teams.
  • Build internal champions who understand the “why” behind design and operational choices.
  • Earn stakeholder trust by demonstrating true ownership and expertise.

But capability building isn’t just about systems – it’s about people.

When team members gain the tools, frameworks, and shared language to lead initiatives themselves, they become strategic multipliers within the organization. This leads to:

  • Reduced onboarding time for new projects.
  • Stronger internal collaboration across silos.
  • A culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Whether you are designing mobility hubs, expanding carshare, scaling a DRT service, or integrating all of them together, developing the ability to learn and lead internally is invaluable.

At movmi, we’re not just educators. We’re enablers of long-term, self-sufficient impact.

Our Approach to Shared Mobility Capability Building

Our approach blends structured learning with hands-on application. It’s not about passive lectures, it’s about active transformation. Here’s how we do it:

Co-Creative Custom Workshops

Every organization faces unique challenges. That’s why our workshops are never off-the-shelf. We co-design sessions that reflect each team’s specific goals—whether it’s strategic planning, financial modeling, or inclusive service design.

One of our most popular formats is our Skills Builder Workshops—tailored for your team, which aims to make shared mobility work in your community.

Urban mobility trends evolve rapidly, and it’s often difficult to separate fact from fad. Our Skills Builder Workshops are rooted in over 14 years of hands-on project experience, real-world data, and a deep understanding of what drives real impact. Whether your team is new to shared mobility or already has experience, we tailor the content to meet your current level and objectives.

Each workshop equips teams with:

  • Benchmark data and real-world case studies
  • Practical tools they can immediately apply
  • Cross-functional insights from different roles and sectors
  • Inspiration to keep investing in sustainable mobility innovation

We’ve delivered more than 50 workforce trainings for both public and private organizations, including Honda UK, BMW, PayByPhone, TransLink and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in British Columbia. We also led a stakeholder workshop for 80 municipalities in Luxembourg – ensuring shared understanding across government stakeholders.

Behavioural Audit Workshop: Europcar

movmi delivered a hands-on behavioural audit workshop for a leading Europcar, a European carshare operator, to understand why transport habits remain “sticky” and how shared mobility can better break through daily travel autopilot. Using behavioural science and user-journey analysis, we mapped real user and non-user behaviour against the operator’s existing digital and physical touchpoints.

The workshop translated behavioural barriers into actionable interventions. From refined messaging and trust-building communications to targeted product and service feature improvements. movmi then linked these interventions (10 actions) to research-backed likelihood factors to estimate the financial impact (over 13 million euros) of implementing each recommendation. Finally, we developed a testing and validation framework to allow the operator to pilot, measure, and confidently scale the most effective interventions for long-term growth.

Multimodal Integration Roadmap Workshop: RideLink (TransLink)

movmi facilitated a multimodal integration roadmap workshop for the MaaS working collaborative led by TransLink to carry integration efforts forward beyond a time-limited pilot. The workshop focused on transitioning from proof-of-concept to durable, region-wide scaling across multiple shared mobility partners.

Using a structured, multi-year planning framework, movmi helped partners align on sequencing, dependencies, governance readiness, and delivery risk across policy, technology, operations, and customer experience. The outcome was a prioritized, phase-based roadmap to guide coordinated post-pilot investment, testing, and implementation.

Shared Mobility 360 Online Course

Online: Beginner – Intermediate Levels

A five-part online course. The next cohort begins in February.

Our flagship online course was structured as a five-part live series, exploring the full shared mobility ecosystem—policy, operations, behavior change, and inclusive service design. Designed for global accessibility, Shared Mobility 360 builds individual capability while encouraging collective learning through peer discussion and interactive exercises.

Participants learn about:

  • Shared mobility foundations and access-based business models
  • Ecosystem dynamics and multimodal integration
  • Designing for underserved communities
  • Behavioral change strategies using COM-B and EAST models
  • Rural mobility innovations rooted in community needs

What participants gained was more than knowledge—they walked away with frameworks they could apply, tools they could reuse, and a global network to support their work.

Shared Mobility Pathways Masterclass

In-person & Online: Intermediate to Advanced Levels

Next edition: April in Montreal. Register interest here.

The Shared Mobility Pathways Masterclass series is designed for experienced professionals who want to explore advanced challenges in-depth. Each Masterclass focuses on a specific topic such as mobility hubs, multimodal integration, or shared mobility for new developments.

The program combines:

  • Advanced online modules
  • Highly interactive, expert-led sessions
  • Optional in-person components
  • Real-world case studies and scenario planning

The Shared Mobility Pathways Masterclass series is designed for experienced professionals who want to explore advanced challenges in-depth. Each Masterclass focuses on a specific topic such as mobility hubs, multimodal integration, or shared mobility for new developments.

Participants consistently highlight the program’s practical value and the clarity it brings to strategic decision-making. This is what some of our previous masterclass attendees held in London had to say.

Through both programs, we build not just knowledge—but confidence. And for many, that’s the difference between participating in change and leading it.

Shared Mobility Study Tours

In-person: All levels

Next in-person edition: April in Montreal. Register interest here.

Study Tours offer a unique opportunity to explore shared mobility systems on the ground. These tours are often integrated into our Masterclass programs but can also be attended independently. Participants get behind-the-scenes access to:

  • Local planners
  • Mobility operators
  • City program leads
  • Real-world implementations

The last Study Tour took place in Montreal in October and focused on mobility hubs. The next Study Tour is scheduled for April in British Columbia and will explore how shared mobility is integrated into new housing developments. Register your interest here.

Mobility Hubs in Montréal – Study Tour

movmi organized a Mobility Hub Study Tour in partnership with the Agence de mobilité durable de Montréal, bringing shared-mobility professionals together for an immersive, on-the-ground learning experience.

The half-day program combined expert briefings, peer networking, and a guided site visit to translate Montréal’s mobility hub strategy into real-world operational insight. Participants gained first-hand exposure to the planning, governance, and implementation processes behind one of Canada’s innovative mobility programs —bridging the gap between policy and practice through direct observation and practitioner dialogue.
