Project Approach

Sparrow is Canada’s first fully station-based shared micromobility operator. Launched in 2021 as a pilot program in collaboration with the local municipality in the South Okanagan, Sparrow has since grown to three municipalities while scaling its fleet to 3X in three years. Its Vancouver-based founders wanted to establish a profitable shared mobility business model while making it enjoyable for users and creating a viable alternative to traveling by personal cars especially in smaller cities.

movmi has been involved right from the start, from advising the founders on the right business model to identifying the right product-market-fit to guiding the team towards the right approach to launching a shared micromobility service in cities. With a well-informed strategy of launching a station-based service in municipalities in the South Okanagan region of British Columbia, Sparrow quickly became the ideal partner for the cities and local businesses.

movmi performed a business case feasibility study before launch and conducted an industry analysis to arrive at the operating model, target market and mode choice. We also were responsible for hiring and training the entire operations team (Regional General Manager, Customer Service and Fleet Manager). Over the course of the three years, movmi has been Sparrow’s trusted advisor in operations management, growth planning and technology strategy.
