What Moves Angelo About Shared Mobility?

For Angelo, shared mobility is much more than just a transportation solution—it’s a philosophy, a way of connecting people and places while reducing our dependence on ownership. His love for shared mobility started long before his career in the industry.

“I never placed much value on owning things. When I was young, my friends saved up for a guitar or a moped, while I saved up to travel. Traveling taught me the power of sharing—hitchhiking, couchsurfing… The more I shared, the more I was able to explore the world. That’s how I fell in love with sharing, and later, with shared mobility.”

That philosophy led him to Taxistop (later Mpact), a pioneering organization in carpooling and car-sharing, where he spent 17 years shaping policies and programs that would transform mobility across Europe.

“Mobility isn’t just about vehicles—it’s about people, connections, and opportunities. It’s about designing systems that make life easier, fairer, and more sustainable.”

Most recently, Angelo founded To Zest, an initiative focused on sustainable and inclusive mobility and tourism. With creativity and expertise, his goal is to build more livable and accessible cities, ensuring that mobility solutions are not only functional but also joyful and meaningful.

Three Projects That Stand Out

1. Mobitwin – Community-Powered Transport for Seniors

One of Angelo’s proudest achievements is helping expand Mobitwin, a volunteer-based transport service for older adults in Belgium. Each year, 400,000 rides are provided—allowing seniors, particularly those in rural areas, to maintain independence, mobility, and social connections.

“Mobitwin was about more than just transport. It was about combating loneliness and bringing meaning to older people’s lives. The volunteers weren’t just drivers—they became part of these seniors’ support networks.”

2. Mobility Hubs – Transforming Urban and Rural Spaces

Angelo has been a key advocate for mobility hubs, helping establish them not just in Belgium, but across Europe. His ability to articulate their value and bring stakeholders on board played a role in accelerating their adoption far beyond what was originally imagined.

“By presenting with passion and vision, I was able to help put mobility hubs on the map. Today, the Flemish government is investing in more than 1,000 hubs, and I know my work contributed to that transformation.”

3. Shared Mobility Rocks – Rethinking the Conference Model

For many, mobility conferences can feel technical and dry—but Angelo saw an opportunity to reinvent the format. He co-founded Shared Mobility Rocks, a global event that merges high-quality discussions with fun, energy, and engagement.

“This was pure joy! We brought high-quality content and fun together. It wasn’t just about presentations—it was about making shared mobility exciting, inspiring, and truly engaging.”

Shared Mobility Rocks has since traveled the world, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and visionaries to shape the future of transportation in an interactive and engaging way.

Transportation and Empathy—What’s the Link?

Despite all the data, technology, and infrastructure behind mobility planning, Angelo believes that real change starts with empathy.

“The way mobility is planned is often extremely rational, as if users can simply be programmed into changing their behavior. But real change requires empathy—understanding what truly moves people, beyond numbers and efficiency.”

That’s why he developed a model that approaches mobility challenges through an empathetic lens. Instead of focusing only on efficiency and cost, this model takes into account human emotions, behaviors, and lived experiences.

“Mobility isn’t just about getting from A to B—it’s about people, emotions, and daily realities that can’t be solved with logic alone. If we only focus on numbers, we lose sight of what really matters.”

His goal is to soften the polarized debates around transportation and bring people-centered thinking into mobility planning.
